When used electronic items are brought to one of Stena Technoworld’s dismantling facilities, all hazardous waste, such as batteries, mercury and CFCs, is properly taken care of. All products and components are treated as hazardous materials until their content and environmental impact have been established.
This is followed, first by a manual, and then a mechanical, treatment process for recycling in the most efficient and safe way.
All components are fragmented into various material fractions: secondary raw materials like metals, steel scrap, plastics, glass and refined materials. The material can then be used in new products.

Groundbreaking plastic recycling solutions
Plastics in electronics can be difficult to recycle. In a unique facility in Halmstad, Sweden, Stena utilizes new technology to separate plastics both with and without brominated flame retardants. Large quantities of pure plastic can now be returned to circulation and materials that previously went to landfill can be recycled.
Outstanding technique for CRT glass
Over 10,000,000 picture tubes have been recycled in our facility in Berlin. A unique technology is used to convert cathode ray tubes (CRTs) to first-rate raw material for new monitors. We see great potential here, since 65 % of Europe’s CRT glass is yet to be recycled. Stena is developing new products made from recycled CRT glass.
