Monitor glass recycling

CRT (Monitors) being recycled.

Picture tube glass from over ten million televisions and monitors has been processed in our facility since it first opened. We collect picture tube glass from all around Europe to produce raw material for glass makers. About 90-95 percent of the glass is converted into secondary raw material in accordance with applicable environmental legislation. Using an extremely effective technique, we are able to separate large quantities of mixed glass from display screens into funnel and panel glass. The glass is washed and ferrous oxide, aluminum oxide and the fluorescent layer are removed.

Today the lead-containing funnel and lead-free panel glass are mainly dispatched as secondary raw materials for new picture tubes. In addition, new innovative solutions for recycled picture tube glass are under development. We have already launched several new products in 2010 such as blasting and cutting abrasives, which have real advantages compared to abrasives currently available on the market.

The environmental advantages of recycling picture tube glass are significant, as we save natural resources as well as large amounts of energy. We also contribute to cutting down on CO2 emissions and make sure that hazardous waste such as lead is properly taken care of.

In the last five years GRIAG Glasrecycling AG has expanded production many times over and receives glass from fourteen European countries. The aim is to continue to attract volume from throughout Europe.
