Recycling of electronics and white goods saves substantial amounts of energy compared with producing material from virgin raw materials. This means large gains for the environment!
Electronics recycling creates major positive environmental effects. Our recycling of electronics from you and other customers helps to avoid more than 1.3 million tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year. This equals 200,000 flights around the world. This would have been the negative impact if the same amount was produced from new natural resources and if the climate damaging gases from cooling appliances had not been processed in our closed system.
When cooperating with Stena you can be sure that we put our highest effort in safely removing all hazardous waste from your electronics. This is done in a manual process to stop hazardous subjects from reaching the environment. Greenhouse gases from old refrigerators and freezers are emptied and neutralized in a closed system. This is how you and Stena together help to depollute the environment.
Electronic waste is an excellent source of precious metals as copper, silver and gold. As an example, to mine one gram of gold from an African mine you need two remove two tonnes of rock that has to be ground down, filtered and further processed in a rather complicated process with negative impact on the environment. Or, you could extract the same amount of gold from approximately 5 waste computers. You only need to know how - and we do!
The gold that comes from our recycling operations is enough to produce all the wedding rings bought in Sweden every year.
